Emergency Medicine Fellowship
at SSM Health Monroe Hospital
SSM Health Monroe Hospital offers an Emergency Medicine Fellowship program for family physicians who desire further training in rural/suburban emergency medicine. Fellowship graduates have the ability to become board-certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS), the organization that provides accreditation for the program. This fellowship training allows a family physician to sit for the ABPS Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (BCEM). Fellows who complete the fellowship are strongly encouraged to take the board exam.
Program Goals & Objectives
- To understand the full breadth and depth of the practice of emergency medicine
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and coordinate care with multiple nursing and technician staff members
- Effectively coordinate care with primary care providers and specialist physicians
- Provide evidence-based and cost-effective emergency care
- Develop sensitivity for subtle presentations of critical illnesses
- Develop time-efficient and appropriate history, exam, differential diagnosis in the emergency department setting
- Provide effective diagnostic and treatment plans for all patients who present to the emergency department
- Communicate with patients and family in a sensitive and compassionate manner
- Coordinate effective and appropriate pre-hospital and inter-facility transport care
