Telehealth Services
At SSM Health, we are proud of our telehealth programs! By leveraging advances in technology, SSM Health is improving access to expert care in communities throughout Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois and Wisconsin while removing the inconvenience of extended travel.
Programs are in place across the SSM Health system, delivering specialized care, including maternal fetal, neurology services, and pediatric telehealth to rural communities in need.
Benefits of Telehealth
SSM Health telehealth programs use a variety of applications and services including two-way video, email, smart phones, wireless tools and other forms of telecommunications technology. These modern communication pipelines offer providers a channel to interact with the patient and exchange information, pictures and video. Our telehealth programs:
- Increase access to specialty care in your area.
- Don't require long-distance for an appointment.
- Enable earlier diagnosis of certain medical conditions.
Telehealth can provide private and confidential methods for specialty consults. For example, in some small towns patients have stated that if they visit a specialty clinic, it is easy for others in the community to recognize their vehicle, and therefore know about the kind of treatment they need. Telehealth is provided in a hospital or clinic, where patients are seen for numerous conditions. The telehealth clinic itself even offers more than one specialty, so your privacy is protected.
In most places, Medicare, Medicaid, and third party insurance companies treat telehealth visits the same as in-office visits. If your insurance plan covers the specialty, then it covers your telehealth visit. The exact same codes are used for billing.
When you arrive for your appointment and check in, one of the clinic staff will escort you to the examination room. The nurse will assist the provider with the visit, and you will be able to see and hear the provider, in real, face-to-face time.
You will be able to interact with your provider. You can discuss symptoms, concerns, and medical history, and your provider will be able to see your physical exam, listen to heart and lung sounds, and look into your ears, nose, and throat, all through the telehealth unit. Your information and conversation will be private and confidential.
