Mt. Vernon, IL (November 28, 2023) – SSM Health is pleased to announce a new Mission leader for the Southern Illinois region. Mark Williams has recently joined SSM Health as the Director of Mission Integration. Williams brings over thirty years of experience in ministry, teaching and organizational leadership. He spent the last four years as Director of Ministry Formation in Mission Integration with Ascension in Pensacola, FL. Williams has an undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Chicago and completed his graduate work in Spiritual Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
Joining SSM Health brings Mark back home. His large family was born and raised in Champaign-Urbana, IL, and is dedicated to healthcare and helping others. His father, a pioneer in artificial intelligence applications in medicine, worked as the Chief Pathologist and Director of Laboratories for Mercy Hospital in Urbana.
“I am pleased to be back in Illinois with my wife, Cilla,” says Mark. “It brings us a little closer to our 8 children and 13 grandchildren. And I miss the snow.” Williams mentioned he also enjoys literature, cooking, the outdoors, and looks forward to deepening the Felician and SSM Health mission in Southern Illinois.
Having Williams in place provides a foundation of encouragement and motivation for team members and leadership to stay focused on the mission and the direction of health care in Southern Illinois. You may reach Mark at 618-436-8526 or via email at Mark.Williams@ssmhealth.com.
